Pike Island

Fort Snelling

Part of Fort Snelling State Park, Pike Island is located at the confluence of the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers. This point where the rivers meet was considered to be the center of the world by native Mdewakanton Dakota people.

Pike Island floods every spring, it’s alluvial soils supporting a lush flood plain forest of Cotton Woods and Silver Maples. There is also a population of deer that call the island home and many other animals. The island is a perfect place to visit to get a dose of wilderness in the heart of the Twin Cities Metro.
